With this route, one gets to know the history of the city by strolling through the heart of its old quarter.

Its Roman, Muslim and Christian past make it an amazing city to visit.

This tour takes one through the peaceful streets of Palma, to discover the rich heritage of its buildings, squares, palaces, courtyards and gardens, such as the cathedral, the Almudaina Palace, the city’s ancient walls, the Lonja building, Sa Llotja, the Arab baths and the City Hall.

The guided tour, through the historic centre, offers one a general view of the city, which as the walk unfolds gives one a global vision of its history, urban evolution and art during each of the distinct epochs.

The route passes through the upper City and the lower City. The upper City where the clergy, the military, the nobility and the upper middle classes lived contains the principal monuments of the old city. The lower City was mainly occupied by people directly or indirectly living off the sea, such as sailors, fishermen, ship-owners, “mestres d’aixa” (ship builders) and other associated professions such as tradesmen and merchants. It was here that one would have heard stories of the marvellous splendour of the ancient maritime routes.

The tour recounts in detail the aesthetic changes in the neighbourhoods and buildings which were a consequence of variations in the economic situation and above all covers the trends in fashion which, like today, governed the aesthetic regulations that were deemed appropriate, influenced to a great degree by the latest European fashions.
